Air on the G string became the popular name of the suite originally known as Air of Johann Sebastian Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major. Bach was employed as the Kapellmeister of Leopold of Anhalt-Köthen in 1717 and he wrote this suite for him.
The song became known as Air on the G string when a violinist August Wilhelmj arrange the piece for violin and piano. He was able to play it on his violin using only one string, the G string.
I've heard a story before that Wilhemj's violin got broken on the very day of his concert and he was planning to play this suite. Almost all the strings are cut off and the only string that remained is the G string. After all the chaos he decided not to quit but instead he played the piece on G string and it impressed the crowd tremendously.
I don't exactly know if that's the real story behind it. All I know is that this song reminds me of the presence of God and that is where I find my peace. Jesus is my song and He is the music of my soul. Try to listen to this song and feel the air that it brings :) God bless

Hi Cheryll. Just wanted you to know that I also stopped by your "fashion" blog today. I liked your last post! I tried to write a comment, but I wasn't able to. I'm not sure if my computer isn't working properly, or if your "fashion" blog isn't set up for comments. Just wanted to mention that just in case you didn't know.
Have a great day!
